Historic Attorney General climate coalition a great step for state & nation

The brand-new coalition will support the Clean Power Plan and challenge the fossil fuel industry

In a historic announcement today, Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen joined former Vice President Al Gore and AGs from around the country, led by New York AG Eric Schneiderman, to initiate a state-led coalition to fight climate change and the fossil fuel industry. Connecticut Fund for the Environment and its bi-state program Save the Sound welcomes this announcement and the news that the coalition filed a brief this morning in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in support of the federal Clean Power Plan, which will cut greenhouse gas emissions from power plants nationwide.

“We’re thrilled by unified state action on climate change, particularly when those states represent a diverse range of geographical and political perspectives,” said Shannon Laun, energy and climate attorney at CFE/Save the Sound. “Today’s announcement marks a turning point in the political landscape of our country, where fossil fuel companies will begin to be held accountable for their words and actions, just like the tobacco industry decades ago. Renewable energy and clean power are our future, and we must all continue to work together collaboratively and creatively to reach that reality. Thank you to Connecticut’s own AG Jepsen for his climate leadership and his support of this historic coalition.”
