Save the Sound to Host Water Quality Forum in Mamaroneck

Join Save the Sound’s staff for a discussion of Long Island Sound water quality issues at a community forum in Mamaroneck on Wednesday evening, July 16.

Topics will include the annual summertime drop in dissolved oxygen that is the Sound’s most critical ecological problem, and the bacterial contamination that closes local beaches frequently in summer.

We will also let you know what you can do to help, including how you can join our program to recruit and train local volunteers to help find the sewer overflows that contribute to both those problems. Just recently, one of our volunteers found and reported an overflow at Marshlands Conservancy in Rye, resulting in a repair.

The meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer and discussion session.

Participating from Save the Sound will be Tracy Brown, Western Long Island Sound director; Tom Andersen, New York program and communications coordinator; and Talia Stieger, Save the Sound’s bacteria monitoring coordinator.

Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson will be on hand to provide a welcome and a few words of introduction.

The meeting is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, in the courtroom of the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck.

Everyone is welcome!
